This research-based article examines the antecedents and consequences of power and entitlement in a work environment, especially where there is significant interdependence and shared work. A stark imbalance of power exists between grantmakers and grant seekers. While this research is not specifically centered on philanthropic practice, dynamics of power and entitlement represent serious challenges to foundation-grantee relations. Insights from this research can help foundation leaders in identifying the potential for, and consequences of, power-based entitlement.
